Clarendon Day 5k

Well… we did it!

Hubbs and I completed our first 5k the other weekend, and I’m back after taking a week off of everything.

No running, no lifting, no Ftbit.  Just sweet relaxation with cupcakes, donuts, and lots of naps.

Race day was awesome, except for the fact that we both slept in! Race began at 8am and we woke up around 7:30.  Luckily, the race started only 2 blocks from our apartment, which left us just enough time to throw on our gear, chug some water and head out the door.  Note, hair was not mentioned because I had no time.

The weather was beautiful.  Slightly chilly, which soon warmed up once we got going.  I hadn’t yet finished the C25k program so I didn’t quite have the endurance to run the whole time.  I tried to keep a good pace, and I think I ran for about 10 mins at once, which is a big deal for me.  Also, praise be to Beyonce, most of the race was downhill.  I was passed by a family with a stroller and 2 small children, and I didn’t even care-  I just wanted to finish, and I did. 37:46, avg about 11mins/mile.  Much better than my usually 15 minute miles. Next time, I hope to shave that number down significantly.

Lessons learned:

I need to run outside more.  Treadmills are fun because I can watch Teen Mom while running, but it’s just not the same.  So now that the weather is cooling down, I’ll try to run outside more than I do inside.  However, I don’t like running alone.  I hate being looked at so I’ll need to convince Hubbs to go with me more often, or find a running buddy.  I’ll also start running in different neighborhoods.  Being close to home, but I think I’d enjoy running around the mall more.  I want to be one of those people.  Because after running outside that day, everything hurt.  Sunday was spent molding myself into the couch because it hurt to walk, and sneeze, and move.  I don’t want to feel like that again.

Sleep and hydration.  Perhaps sushi and sake weren’t the best choices for my last meal before my run, and I definitely should have followed with about 185 glasses of water afterwards.  Also, maybe I should make sure I get my ass up in time to get ready.  I hate being late, and had we not lived so close to the starting line, we would have missed our race.  Not what I want since we paid for registration.

Have fun! I may have gotten a bit peeved by Hubby leaving me in his dust.  But I shouldn’t have.  Although we weren’t running side by side, we were still doing this together.  So maybe I should have encouraged him for running as long as he did instead of scowling because I had to run by myself, in a crowd of people (boo hoo).

I’m proud to have been able to complete one of my goals for this year.  I only have 3 months left, but I think I can achieve most of them.

Next run: Veterans Day 10k in Nov.

Maybe I’ll make myself an USAF Brat shirt?  I’ve been feeling crafty lately, so I’m going to think of some non-tacky shirt options, if they even exist 🙂
